On March 25, 2014 DLC will release on all platforms for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 titled Revelations which is centered on Alucard.

The news broke when a gamer searching through Lords of Shadow 2’s code discovered a complete description of the DLC. Konami followed up with confirmation of the DLC but has not yet released pricing information.

Revelations occurs immediately before Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and explores Alucard’s involvement with Dracula’s story. Alucard, or Dracula spelled backwards, is a fan-favorite as Dracula’s son turned vampire by Dracula himself. Prior to the events in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Alucard and Simon Belmont, Dracula’s grandson, bested Dracula in battle who slipped into a coma that lasted into the modern age. During Dracula’s absence Alucard prepared for both Dracula’s return and the accompanying battle against Satan.

In Revelations Alucard’s combat abilities includes the Glaciem and Igneas powers as well as the powers to transform into a wolf, transform into a bat swarm, and the ability to turn back time.

Accessibility Angle:

Revelations is interestingly advertised as the conclusion to the Belmonts’ story but is a prequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 rather than a continuation of its end game. Disabled players who enjoy the Lords of Shadow gameplay and narrative arc can decide whether to continue the game with story based DLC.

The Lords of Shadow narrative arc for the Castlevania franchise continues the series’ action adventure gameplay that is interspersed with platforming and puzzles. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 notably includes the option to turn off Quick Time Events which is a particularly accessible feature for fine motor disabilities.

For more information about the series’ video game accessibility see DAGERS’ review of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate here. Additionally, all three games in the Lords of Shadow series – Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 – include free playable demos that provide disabled players with hands on experience before committing to a purchase.
