The Vale: Shadow of the Crown
Canadian indie developer Falling Squirrel seeks to make their game fully accessible to blind gamers! The Vale: Shadow of The Crown is an audio-based fantasy adventure game that puts you in the shoes of a blind warrior named Alex. It’s mainly an auditory experience, but there is combat and a resource management system. The developers definitely did their research, as they contacted the Canadian National Institute for the Blind for feedback. There are even characters voiced by blind and visually impaired actors. You can check out The Vale: Shadow of The Crown when it’s released Aug. 19 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Looking for an LGBTQ-friendly dungeon crawler about potential partners turning into swords? Look no further than Boyfriend Dungeon! This game has an unconventional premise and some unique accessibility options. On top of subtitles and customizable audio options, there’s something you can turn on called “Goddess Shield” which cuts the damage you receive in half. It also gives you experience points even if you lose a battle, guaranteeing a laid-back experience for disabled gamers overall. For more information about Boyfriend Dungeon, click the link provided.
There are often debates surrounding the accessibility and inclusion of difficulty options in From Software’s game series, but the upcoming Elden Ring may change the conversation in a major way. Conceptualized by legendary creators George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, Elden Ring is on track to be a Souls-like adventure game with an epic story. In a recent interview, Miyazaki opened up about the game’s development and how they plan to make Elden Ring more accessible than its predecessors. Players will be able to summon their own NPC characters to help fight enemies whenever they want. Bosses will also be less brutal, and players can choose to skip many of the bosses if they prefer. There’s a lot we still don’t know about Elden Ring, but look forward to more accessibility news leading up to the games release Jan. 21, 2022.
